In addition to Oil Leaders, Dr. AlMuhanna authored more than 100 studies and articles in Arabic and English for renowned international and regional publications, spoke at countless events hosted by esteemed academic entities, and wrote a previous book (in Arabic) about the global transfer of power after the collapse of the USSR.

Since 1989, Dr. AlMuhanna worked with four energy ministers on media and oil policy-related matters. His comments were frequently quoted by the international media. He also helped lay the framework for the modern-day dialogue between oil-producing and consuming countries, and was one of the leaders in advancing the Saudi energy sector.

Dr. Ibrahim Abdulaziz AlMuhanna’s life and career had very humble beginnings. Having grown up in the small village of al Dakhla, Sudair, Saudi Arabia during the 1950s and 60s, he spent much of his pre-adolescent life without access to electricity or running water.

Upon earning his bachelor’s degree from King Saud University (KSU), he went to the U.S. to pursue his graduate studies. He got his master’s degree in journalism at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and obtained his PhD from the American University in Washington, D.C. Then, he returned to his country to teach at King Saud University and, afterwards, started working with the Saudi Ministry of Energy.

Throughout his career, Dr. AlMuhanna served under four distinguished Saudi energy ministers, offering them advice, input, and analyses about media and public relations, policymaking, OPEC and OPEC Plus affairs, and other issues that pertain to the oil market.

Known as the “Gulf Source”, he was frequently interviewed and quoted by the media, and his comments about major oil market events regularly made international headlines. Additionally, Dr. AlMuhanna authored two books, wrote hundreds of studies and articles in both English and Arabic, and spoke at and participated in conferences all over the world.
